Challenges

Identifying Water Canal Leakage/ Irrigation

In Rajasthan, Canals form an important support for irrigation. However, this system has its own disadvantages. Canals are generally not deep and may dry up. The water seeps into the ground and leads to the problem of water logging, and the excessive flow of water brings the salt to the surface making the soil infertile. Water logging and increased salinity are some of the major problems of Irrigation. Incidents of water leakage, through manual intervention, are also frequently reported across the entire area surrounding the Canal. Technology and Sensors (IoT based) to be leveraged to identify water levels across various water canals real time which will help in leakage control. Also sufficient drainage and soil treatment can be done to improve the land potential nearby. This solution if successful can be extended to prevent leakages from Gas, Petrol pipelines.
