Due to excessive exploitation of groundwater, harmful elements get mixed with water effecting its quality. Apart from fluoride, water quality in rural habitations is also infested with other anthropogenic chemicals. Impacted districts include: Bharatpur, Nagaur, Barmer, Jalore, Bhilwara, Jhunjhunun, Karauli, Sawaimadhopur, Pali, Jodhpur, Sirohi, Jaisalmer, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand, Kota, Bundi, Baran, Churu, Jaipur, Alwar, Sikar and Bikaner. This results in spread of water-borne diseases. As per WHO standards for clean drinking water, ideal standard is 1 ppm fluoride in water with 500-7000 TDS (total dissolved solid).
